About

Permaculture Eden is a five hectare human scale, integrated, regenerative, farm designed to educate and inspire by example.

Designed, owned and run by two qualified professional educators with much different backgrounds Fiona and Steve Hanson.

Under design and development since 2004 Permaculture Eden is now one of the worlds most advanced and productive permaculture sites. Demonstrating living productive examples of planed grazing, integrated stock management, silvo-pasture, alley cropping, forest gardening, intensive poly-culture gardening, integrated pest management, fuel forests, natural building, dry toilets, grey and black water cleaning systems, passive solar and evaporative cooling installations. 2017 sees the completion of our 1000 square meter pond with a water holding capacity of over 1200 cubic meters, which enable us to produce approximately 1200 kilo of high quality fish for ourselves and our local community.

We have permanently reduced our energy consumption by one-third and run our entire farm including the workshop on two-thirds the energy of a typical family home in Europe.

To date we have planted more than 15000 trees, encouraged the natural regeneration of at least another 1000 trees with more seeding naturally every year. We are planting a further 4000 trees next years. All these trees are sequestering carbon, providing fodder, nuts and fruit for animals wild a domestic, providing fruit and nuts for human consumption off and on site. Providing habitat for wild animals. This all at the same time as building soil and cleaning the atmosphere.

“If we do act, in however small a way, we don’t have to wait for some grand utopian future. The future is an infinite succession of presents, and to live now as we think human beings should live, in defiance of all that is bad around us, is itself a marvellous victory.” -Howard Zinn
