Recommended Reading

During your Permaculture Design Certificate course you will be exposed to all the information you need to obtain your Permaculture certification, but there are many books that you can read which will enhance your learning experience.

For this reason I have constructed a reading list for your consideration the list is presented in order of priority which Fiona and I feel will be most helpful to your retention.

[amazon_enhanced asin=”0908228015″ container=”” container_class=”” price=”All” background_color=”FFFFFF” link_color=”000000″ text_color=”0000FF” /] The “Permaculture a Designers’ Manual” would be our  first choices if the price is not an issue for you; this is still the definitive  text on Permaculture even though it is 30 years old and contains some ideas  which have proved to be inaccurate. This is the core text for the Permaculture  Design Certificate (PDC) course.

[amazon_enhanced asin=”0908228082″ container=”” container_class=”” price=”All” background_color=”FFFFFF” link_color=”000000″ text_color=”0000FF” /] The “Introduction to Permaculture” is an adequate representation of permaculture for those who wish to do some pre-reading before attending a PDC, but it is no replacement for the “Permaculture a Designers’ Manual.” The price for the Introduction to Permaculture is more realistic for most people and this has to be a consideration.

[amazon_enhanced asin=”0646418440″ container=”” container_class=”” price=”All” background_color=”FFFFFF” link_color=”000000″ text_color=”0000FF” /] “Permaculture: Principles and Pathways beyond Sustainability” is a wonderful text by the co-founder of permaculture “David Holmgren” We prefer David’s approach to presenting the permaculture principles and have adopted the principles as set out in this book. This is our second core text, for anyone who wants more depth of understanding of permaculture should consider purchasing this book.

[amazon_enhanced asin=”185623021X” container=”” container_class=”” price=”All” background_color=”FFFFFF” link_color=”000000″ text_color=”0000FF” /] The Earth Care Manual: A Permaculture Handbook for Britain and Other Temperate Climates: This is here for those coming from the UK or other cool temperate climates. This is by no means a definitive text on permaculture and is no replacement for the designers’ manual;  it is however a very accessible text and worth a read, and sold at a much more realistic  price.
